4a- Forming an Opportunity Belief

I believe there is an unmet need of medical or recreational marijuana. In today’s world many people are dying of overdose or are becoming highly addicted to opioids. These types of drugs have a high connection with the nervous system that basically once you start the drug it’s almost impossible to stop. This is why drug addicts’ relapse because they miss the “high”. In my product that I would implement marijuana for the typical person or someone that is heavily prescribed medication. The reason for this is that it can lower the cost of pharmaceutical companies, have more control over your well-being, and going a more natural or holistic approach verses pills. On this topic it is extremely sensitive to certain kinds of audiences that are more conserved or believe that is not a healing tool. From reading the article on http://www.drugabuse.gov/ I learned that this is a huge market. This can be a factor, but I believe that there is still tremendous growth and potential with this line of work. I think about 70% of this idea can become actuality even though there are companies out there that has started this plan there are many different ways to go about infusing the marijuana in the person if needed.

1.     70-80-year-old man in retirement home grew up in Brooklyn
§  Have you ever considered smoking weed?
¨     “Yes, I have when I was younger, I used to smoke after school with a few of my classmates. Sometimes we would get caught” (laughing)
§  Are you aware of the combination of HTC oil in food?
¨     “No, I am not. I feel in today’s world they can basically create anything. In my day it was just a joint or some paper.”
§  Did you know 49% of people in the nation used marijuana for recreational purposes?
¨     “No, I had no idea. I mean like I said, I used it when I was younger, so I don’t see the problem but wow that’s almost half of the nation!”
§  60% of the nation would legalize marijuana, would you?
¨     “Yes, I would vote in favor for it. It doesn’t harm no one all it does is help relax or mellow out a person. It doesn’t cause any harm.”
§  What if I told you that marijuana could lower the pharmaceutical companies in return for cheaper medication? How would you feel?
¨     (His eyes lit up) “Are you being serious?” “Yes” “Well sign me up because I pay so much money for medication that I have no idea what it does or if it even helps and if marijuana can do the same thing but cheaper, I’m in.”
§  Did you know that people become addicted to opioids more frequently than marijuana?
¨     “No idea. I never took an opioid, so I don’t know the feeling.”

REFLECTION-No matter of the age difference and cultural differences the man was still open to the new idea because he has tried and along with the other factors of not wanting to be addict to hard narcotics and paying a lot less for his medication.

2.     Young single female and works at Chick-Fil-A
§  Have you ever considered smoking weed?
¨     “No, I have not. I barely am able to go to parties.”
§  Are you aware of the combination of HTC oil in food?
¨     “Yes, I am. Some people that I go to school with infuse it with gummies or brownies.”
§  Did you know 49% of people in the nation used marijuana for recreational purposes?
¨     “I did not know that, but it doesn’t surprise me. Many of my friend’s smoke marijuana and prefer to do that over drinking. I do not part take. I am not allowed.”
§  60% of the nation would legalize marijuana, would you?
¨     “No, I would not. I see to many people act different along with the path that marijuana can lead to.”
§  What if I told you that marijuana could lower the pharmaceutical companies in return for cheaper medication? How would you feel?
¨     “I would still try and find the cheapest option before using marijuana. I would go a holistic approach just not including that drug.”
§  Did you know that people become addicted to opioids more frequently than marijuana?
¨     “I could believe that. Even though either one is not good for you I wouldn’t try it.”
REFLECTION- For her scenario I think the way she was brought up by her family and their views influenced her decision. She was firm with her choice of not choosing marijuana.

3.     Mid- age house wife with kids
§  Have you ever considered smoking weed?
¨     “Yes, I have multiple times my life can be super stressful with my job, kids, life, and maintaining a marriage.”
§  Are you aware of the combination of HTC oil in food?
¨     “Yes, my husband and I went to Colorado this past year and we went to an ice cream shop and it had that oil in the ice cream. It tasted amazing.”
§  Did you know 49% of people in the nation used marijuana for recreational purposes?
¨     “I could see that. Like I said earlier when I went on vacation there was smoke and weed everywhere, we looked. Even though that state legalized it I am sure in the nation it is similar.”
§  60% of the nation would legalize marijuana, would you?
¨     “Yes, I would be in favor to legalize it.”
§  What if I told you that marijuana could lower the pharmaceutical companies in return for cheaper medication? How would you feel?
¨     “I would feel great! Also, if they had kid medication in that form it would save so much money and probably be better for them when they get older.”
§  Did you know that people become addicted to opioids more frequently than marijuana?
¨     “Yes, I was aware of this I recently went through this with a friend and he didn’t believe me, but it is true!”
REFLECTION- This lady knew the market, product, and culture that marijuana can be centralized into and she was all for this to happen if it does in the future.

  1. Amazing post Ariel! This issue is becoming much more stronger each day and having some states have it legalized and some not cause some waves in the country. I also liked how you used many statistics that you have found to prove your case when talking to your subjects to state the facts to them. Maybe Florida will soon be legalized for it.

  2. This post is really well thought out and thorough. Some of the stats you provided were exceedingly insightful and worked well in the role you played as the interviewer. I think the use of marijuana is definitely becoming a more talked about subject and has essentially lost its "taboo" status. This was super interesting and I look forward to see what else you write about in the future!

  4. Hey Ariel, I was very interested in your post and your selected subject matter. I do wonder if you should have asked different questions to different people based on their demographics? perhaps, you would learn more if you tailored your questions to the individual person. Although, having a set question bank could make your results more standardized. I am very interested moving forward to see what work you create!

  5. Ariel, I found this post to be very interesting and overall great job on this assignment! I agree that there is an unmet need for the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana. There are countless studies on the amount of people that utilize it and the benefits that it can provide to the human body without significant harm. I find the topic of the legalization of marijuana to be very interesting as it is something that is still very much still in development. Good job!
